Throughout his career, he embarked on multiple deployments including: Baghdad, Iraq (2003), Tal Afar, Iraq (2005), and Kandahar, Afghanistan (2013), showcasing his resilience and dedication in high-stress situations.
His experiences as a broadcaster has led him to follow his dreams of acting and cofounding The Renaissance Rascals.

Captain Yen Shang is the nephew of the pirate lord Wang Zhi. Captain Yen has travelled from The Middle Kingdom to England, as an emissary of the Wokou, to establish trade routes with promising partners.
Captain Yen Shang commands three ships: Jin Man, The Golden Eel, a five-masted junk, and two three-masted junks, Caifu, Fortune, and Ronya
Captain Yen Shang is the nephew of the pirate lord Wang Zhi. Captain Yen has travelled from The Middle Kingdom to England, as an emissary of the Wokou, to establish trade routes with promising partners.
Captain Yen Shang commands three ships: Jin Man, The Golden Eel, a five-masted junk, and two three-masted junks, Caifu, Fortune, and Ronyao, Glory. During their travels from Cathay, his ships fought Dutch pirates, Portugese caravels, and Spanish galleons.
Shang is an adapt sailor and skilled swordsman. He has employed his talents to ensure the survival of his ally Lord Robert Adlebourne III during their travels.
Outwardly, Shang will say he keeps the Baron alive so he doesn't have to be troubled with making new allies.
However, he has come to view Lord Robert as an equal and comrade in arms.

Seeing an opportunity to either make an ally or fill his holds, he commanded his ships to engage the Dutch. When the smoke cleared and the cannons cooled, Yen Shang boarded the English vessel only to be met by a surprised nobleman.
"I am Lord Robert Adlebourne, Baron of Umbracinia. I am in your debt, sir," said the elderly Baron.
"I am Captain Yen Shang of the Wokou," Shang replied, "I seek to make trade partners in England."
"You have done me a great service dispatching those Dutch scum," smiled Lord Adlebourne, "Consider yourself welcome in my lands."
Captain Yen nodded his approval and ordered his ships to escort Lord Adlebourne's ship to port. When the two met on the docks, the old Baron turned to his rescuer and said, "I'm not long for this world, so I will introduce you to my sons who will welcome you as I have.
